A little automation goes a long way. Motorised blinds let you control light, privacy and warmth at the touch of a button — no more wrestling with cords, and no more leaving blinds up while you're away. Beyond the everyday convenience, they add a genuine security benefit (blinds that open and close on schedule make a home look lived-in) and can help with energy efficiency by keeping heat in during winter and out during summer.

At Millers Home we offer both hardwired motorised blinds and rechargeable battery-powered options, so there's a fit whether you're building new or upgrading an existing home. Both come in the full range of our fabrics — plains, patterns and blockout — so automation doesn't mean compromising on style.

How do automated roller blinds actually work?

Every automated blind has a small motor built in. From there, you control it however suits you — a wall-mounted switch, a remote, your smartphone, or as part of a broader smart home system. You get all the benefits of a blind with none of the manual effort.

Hardwired vs. battery-operated: which one do you need?

Hardwired motors connect directly to your home's power and need to be installed by a registered electrician. These are the best fit for new builds or a renovation where walls are already open, since running the wiring is far simpler at that stage. The upside: no batteries, ever.

Battery-operated motors are the easier retrofit — no electrician required, and they install just like a standard blind with the motor concealed inside. This makes them the practical choice for existing homes. Depending on how often the blind is used, you can expect to recharge it roughly once a year.

Why customers upgrade to automated blinds

  • Flexible control — operate blinds individually or group them onto shared channels so several move together
  • Smart home ready — works with your smartphone, tablet, or most existing home automation systems
  • Scheduling built in — set blinds to open and close at set times, which is great for daily routine and adds a layer of security while you're away
  • Reaches the tricky ones — no more poles or step-ladders for high or awkward windows
  • Cordless by design — a safer option around kids and pets, with a cleaner look on the window
  • New build friendly — we can pre-wire during construction so everything's ready to go before the blinds go in

Can I automate the blinds I already have?

Sometimes — it depends on the blind. Our team assesses this case by case, so the best next step is to get in touch, and we'll let you know what's possible for your setup.

Which Blinds can be motorised?

Roller, Honeycomb and Mikronwood Blinds.
